Ward Boundaries to Change – October 2025 Alberta Election
Based on the information provided and feedback collected from community members, the Board has approved one additional trustee to represent Cochrane as well as combining current Ward 2 (Langdon, Indus and Chestermere rural) with current Ward 4 (Crossfield, Beiseker, Irricana, Kathyrn and Airdrie rural areas). The overall number of trustees remains at eight.
These changes are intended to provide more equitable representation of constituents on the Board.
These changes will be implemented during the next Alberta municipal election in October 2025.
The survey is now closed. Thank you for your participation.
A ward is a local area within the school division that a trustee represents; this engagement is not about school attendance boundaries.
The Board of Trustees (the Board) believes that a key foundation of good governance and accountability is electoral representation and invites you to provide feedback regarding Rocky View Schools (RVS) ward boundaries.
RVS currently has six wards and eight trustees to serve our nearly 200,000 residents. As some of these communities have changed significantly since the last ward boundary changesin 2017, the Board of Trustees is engaging in a ward boundary review to ensure that effective and equitable representation is maintained.
We invite you to take part in our review process by attending a public meeting and/or providing feedback through the survey below. The feedback received will inform the Board’s decision which could be to not change the ward boundaries or may be a different option than those proposed for review.
Three options are being presented for public feedback:
Seven trustee option combining Ward 2 (Langdon, Indus and Chestermere rural areas) and Ward 4 (Crossfield, Beiseker, Irricana, Kathyrn, and Airdrie rural areas) and redistributing 5,600 residents from Ward 6 (Cochrane: Sunset Ridge) into Ward 5 (Bragg Creek, Springbank, Bearspaw, Westbrook and Cochrane rural areas).
Eight trustee option adding a trustee to Ward 6 (Cochrane would now have two trustees) and combining Ward 2 (Langdon, Indus and Chestermere rural areas) and Ward 4 (Crossfield, Beiseker, Irricana, Kathyrn, and Airdrie rural areas).
Nine trustee option adding a trustee to Ward 6 (Cochrane would now have two trustees), and redistributing 8,600 residents from Ward 3 (Airdrie: North of Veterans Blvd) into Ward 4 (Crossfield, Beiseker, Irricana, Kathyrn, and Airdrie rural areas) and redistributing 5,100 residents from Ward 1 (Chestermere: East side of the Lake and East of Range Road 282 on the south end of the lake) into Ward 2 (Langdon, Indus and Chestermere rural areas).
If the Board decides to make changes to the current ward boundaries, the changes will go into effect for the October 2025 election.
You have an important voice in informing this decision. Please submit your feedback before June 16.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this engagement opportunity.
