RVS’ Board of Trustees is made up of community members elected to provide clear, caring oversight of our public education system. This includes setting education, strategic and capital plans, approving budgets and advocating to the government for the supports needed to ensure student success.
Trustees start with the same kinds of big questions our families and employees ask: What learning matters most? What supports help students thrive? What gets in the way – and how can we remove those barriers?
To find the answers, trustees keep their doors – and minds – open. They actively listen, invite diverse perspectives and welcome feedback. Your ideas help shape the decisions they make.
How We Engage
The Board has traditionally conducted engagements on a variety of topics, including new school namings, grade configuration determinations and school attendance area changes, and more. At the heart of this work is a genuine commitment to hearing from the people these decisions affect and bringing their perspectives into the process.
Engagement Principles
Effective and Efficient
Our engagement work is thoughtfully planned to support RVS priorities and meet people where they are. We design each engagement to reflect the interests, values and concerns of participants, while being mindful of everyone’s time and the division’s resources. RVS engagement specialists lead this work using approaches, tools and templates that help keep the process clear, consistent and high-quality.
Transparent
We let participants know why we’re engaging, what level of input we’re asking for, how and when they can take part, and how their feedback will inform decisions. Afterward, we share a clear summary of what we heard and how it was used so people can see the impact of their contribution. Engagement materials stay available even after the process wraps up, helping keep things open and transparent.
Inclusive
We plan and deliver engagements with participants’ diverse needs in mind so everyone has the same chance to take part. RVS makes a deliberate effort to include all voices, including those from groups that may be underrepresented or need extra support to participate. We provide plenty of notice and clear timelines so people have time to prepare and share their perspectives.
RVS' Communications and Engagement department assists the Board by providing expertise to plan and deliver these engagements. RVS follows the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) Spectrum of Public Participation.
