<h2>The Board of Trustees (the Board) believes that a key foundation of good governance and accountability is electoral representation and invites you to provide feedback regarding Rocky View Schools (RVS) ward boundaries.</h2> <img src="https://s3.ca-central-1.amazonaws.com/ehq-production-canada/f45ea23f7baebf4378f602d9a282de0703a60566/original/1713985906/af0e1c5ef5375c572a463b09e3c368d3_2024_Boundary_Review_Current_Display.jpg?1713985906" style="width: 600px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib fr-fil">RVS currently has six wards and eight trustees to serve our nearly 200,000 residents. As some of these communities have changed significantly since the last ward boundary changes in 2017, the Board of Trustees is engaging in a ward boundary review to ensure that effective and equitable representation is maintained.We invite you to take part in our review process by attending a public meeting and/or providing feedback through the survey below. The feedback received will inform the Board&rsquo;s decision which could be to not change the ward boundaries or may be a different option than those proposed for review.Three options are being presented for public feedback:<ul><li>Seven trustee option combining Ward 2 (Langdon, Indus and Chestermere rural areas) and Ward 4 (Crossfield, Beiseker, Irricana, Kathyrn, and Airdrie rural areas) and redistributing 5,600 residents from Ward 6 (Cochrane: Sunset Ridge) into Ward 5 (Bragg Creek, Springbank, Bearspaw, Westbrook and Cochrane rural areas).</li><li>Eight trustee option adding a trustee to Ward 6 (Cochrane would now have two trustees) and combining Ward 2 (Langdon, Indus and Chestermere rural areas) and Ward 4 (Crossfield, Beiseker, Irricana, Kathyrn, and Airdrie rural areas).</li><li>Nine trustee option adding a trustee to Ward 6 (Cochrane would now have two trustees), and redistributing 8,600 residents from Ward 3 (Airdrie: North of Veterans Blvd) into Ward 4 (Crossfield, Beiseker, Irricana, Kathyrn, and Airdrie rural areas) and redistributing 5,100 residents from Ward 1 (Chestermere: East side of the Lake and East of Range Road 282 on the south end of the lake) into Ward 2 (Langdon, Indus and Chestermere rural areas).</li></ul>If the Board decides to make changes to the current ward boundaries, the changes will go into effect for the October 2025 election.You have an important voice in informing this decision. Ward Boundary Review

<h2>Rocky View Schools (RVS) is looking for parent/guardian, student and staff feedback as we plan the school calendars for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 school years.</h2>Three drafts have been prepared based on previous feedback and provincial requirements for instruction and professional learning time and all statutory holidays. We want to know what you like best and least about each option, and which you prefer overall for each school year. This input will help to inform the Board of Trustees&rsquo; decision on the calendars, to be made next fall.Beginning in 2025/26, RVS is considering a new fall break in November. This break is intended to support staff and student well-being. For each school year, we have proposed options that both include and do not include the fall break. Your feedback will help us to understand if this is desirable in our school communities.Alberta school divisions must provide 475 hours of instruction for Kindergarten students per year, 950 hours of instruction for Grade 1 &ndash; 9 students per year and 1,000 hours of instruction for Grade 10 &ndash; 12 students per year. School must also end by June 30 each school year. It is up to local school divisions to determine best how to organize the school calendar to meet these requirements. 2025/26 and 2026/27 School Calendars

<h2>Decision</h2>The Board of Trustees (the Board) of Rocky View Schools (RVS) made an important decision at the April 25, 2024 public board meeting regarding Balancing Airdrie Student Spaces. To address increasing enrolment pressures and improve utilizations at Airdrie schools, many grade configuration changes and attendance boundary changes will be made across Airdrie starting the beginning of September 2025. There are no changes for the upcoming school year. See the <a href="https://rvsengage.com/40029/widgets/166212/documents/128723" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">letter sent to parents</a> for more information.After listening to community feedback through the Balancing Airdrie Student Spaces engagement and considering all available information, the Board believes a school-by-school approach to changing grade configurations and attendance areas where necessary and keeping neighbourhoods together, honours what we heard and best balances Airdrie student spaces with the greatest improvement to utilizations overall. A summary of various outcomes of this decision is provided below. A <a href="https://rvsengage.com/40029/widgets/167723/documents/128711" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">table listing changes by community</a> is also available and an interactive map will be provided by the end of the school year.Summary (see below for detailed changes)<ul><li>No changes until the fall of 2025.</li><li>All high schools in Airdrie become Grade 10 &ndash; 12.</li><li>Multiple Airdrie communities are redesignated to other schools to address the pressure in various schools and maximize every possible space. Details of the communities redesignated are attached.</li><li>All schools except for Cooper&rsquo;s Crossing School adjust by one grade level.</li><li>No attendance boundary changes for French Immersion or Christian programs. Christian program extends to Grade 9 (currently ends at Grade 8).</li><li>A small area in central Airdrie is now designated to specific high schools discontinuing a historical choice area.</li></ul><hr><h2>What We Heard</h2>The Board of Trustees appreciates the feedback gathered from the Airdrie community both online and in person. Unfortunately, the earliest a new elementary school in Airdrie could open is 2026 or 2027 and a new high school, optimistically, in 2028. While the potential new schools will help, they do not fully solve RVS&#39; ongoing space challenges given the city grows by 300 &ndash; 500 new RVS students each year.The&nbsp;Balancing Airdrie Student Spaces&nbsp;engagement&nbsp;is&nbsp;open until&nbsp;March 2024.&nbsp;The Board aims to reach a decision at the April 25, 2024,&nbsp;public meeting, which will take effect at the start of the 2025/26 school year, allowing time for families and staff to prepare. <h2>Rocky View Schools&#39; newest school will open in Langdon in September 2024 and needs a name!</h2>There are a couple of ways parents/guardians, students and community members can help us find the perfect name for the new school.
